Pain Sucks!

Pain sucks!

My husband has a joke about pain.  He says if he wakes up in the morning and if something is not hurting, then he’s dead.

I used to laugh, but now I feel the same way.  I sound like Rice Krispies when I get out of bed every morning! Snap, crackle, pop!  Getting older is not for sissies.  I used to pride myself on the fact that I didn’t have any pain and I used to think that I was never going to be a victim of pain because I ate well and more importantly, I exercised.  I remember my mother in law saying that when she got in her fifties is when she started falling apart.  I used to say, “that’s never going to happen to me”.  I really thought that I was somehow going to get through this life with no physical pain. Ha!

I guess I should consider myself lucky because I have been fortunate that my pain levels have not kept me down. (except that one time, with sciatica) Not to say that there haven’t been days where I have hurt more than others, but I push myself to get through them.  Sometimes with help (pain meds).

Now, I’m not saying you’re not going to start having pain until your 50’s, I know many women who start having pain when they’re much younger.  Every BODY is different, and genetics and many other things determine what pain you will experience.

With regards to pain, I have had parts of my body hurt over the years, but the pain usually went away quickly.  I usually used OTC pain meds and rested my body.  The last few years, my pain has grown up! LOL!  With my over 50 pain, it started in my lower back and then started working its way down my leg, which in turn, led to sciatica.

Now, if you’ve never had sciatica pain, hopefully you will never get it.  It is excruciating.  I tried chiropractors, massage, acupuncture, cupping, prescription pain pills etc.  I can honestly say that I have never hurt like that in my life.  It was worse than giving birth.  I can remember laying on the couch crying because I could not alleviate the pain.  Nothing I did, worked. This pain continued for months!  I was not working at the time and thank goodness because I don’t know how I would have made it through a day.

That happened a couple years ago and I’m happy to say that it hasn’t occurred since. I have however, felt twinges of sciatica at times, but I tell myself that its not hurting and take my mind off it.

But today, I’m going to talk about things that I do, and what I’ve heard others do as well as things I have read to hopefully help our changing bodies…

Pain sucks! Hopefully you can start feeling some relief with something that I’ve mentioned in this blog. If you would like to add a comment, please feel free to do so in the comment section.

Be Kind,

Dian

Great article and thank you for always being a guiding light over the years through other forms of pain like heart ache for instance. Keep up the great work!
